Good Enough for Rock 'n' Roll

from Demos by The False Positives

/

about

This is the debut single from the False Positives. Songwriter/guitarist/singer Dave Harrison was in the well known Boston-based band the Voodoo Dolls, which performed regularly at legendary rock clubs such as New York City’s CBGB's and the Rat in Boston and also toured the Northeast and Middle Atlantic regions during which time they opened for bands like Redd Kross, the Fleshtones, the Cynics, the Bags, and Lyres. The Voodoo Dolls were like a cross between the early Beatles and the Ramones, who they opened for five times in Boston, Providence, and New Haven.

Aside from the Voodoo Dolls’ twenty year reunion at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA in October 2014, Dave played an annual Halloween punk tribute night, relearning the songs that he first learned to play guitar to, the punk rock trifecta: Sex Pistols (2013), Ramones (2014), and the Dead Boys (2015). In 2016, Dave won a spot in Rochester’s annual songwriting contest where everyone writes a song with the same name, which was part of the Fringe Fest that year, and he got to perform at the sold-out event. This was really the impetus for his current stretch of songwriting and demo recording, which led to the formation of the band. More recently, the False Positives debuted at Lux Lounge in November 2018, opening for local favorites Harmonica Lewinski and the Fox Sisters.

lyrics

LYRICS:
I try, to figure why
but it always keeps me mystified
What is that voodoo on the wire
Just like a tribe got us dancing round the fire

It's not a problem if you require proof
Three chords a backbeat and you can hear the proof
If that's the part you'll play if that's in fact the price you'll pay
A little heart and soul, it's good enough for rock 'n' roll

Gabba gabba hey hey hey
that shaky feeling inside can't be faked
Like climbing up too high and falling
in a wide open fracas, raging free for all

It's not a problem if you require proof
Three chords a backbeat and you can hear the proof
If that's the part you'll play if that's in fact the price you'll pay
A little heart and soul, it's good enough for rock 'n' roll

Rock 'n' roll will never lie
stab you in the back and leave you there to die
A blur of chrome a flash of light
There's a streetwalking cheetah in the house tonight

It's not a problem if you require proof
Three chords a backbeat and you can hear the proof
If that's the part you'll play if that's in fact the price you'll pay
Maybe fate will find a way
Rock 'n' roll won't fade away
A little heart and soul, it's good enough for rock 'n' roll
